Kaja and I finished our first day of the UKC Scentwork trial in Spring TX. The following were our results.

Advanced Handler Discrimination – 1st place and earned Advanced Handler Discrimination title

Master Vehicle – 1st place and Master Vehicle element title

Master Interior – 1st place and Master Interior element title

Master Exterior – 1st place and only dog to qualify

Master Container – didn’t qualify. Dang food distraction was brisket which to Kaja smelled just like her flank steak food reward.

For day two we earned a 1st place in Elite Interior, a 2nd place in Master Exterior (that finishes our Master Exterior element title), and a 2nd place in Master Container. We, no I, choked on Elite Vehicles, and Excellent Handler Discrimination we just missed it.

Still not a bad weekend. Always some areas for me to improve. Kaja and I both had lots of fun on both days. We did 10 total searches, earned 5 first place, two second place, and 3 non-qualifying searches. Also earned 4 new titles.

One of our more comedic scentwork searches was our first ever Elite Interior search. Unknown number of hides (between 1-4), three rooms, one of which can be blank, and were given a 5 minute time limit.

The poor judge was Tracy Patton-:). We start off the search and find the first hide and I yell out “alert!” I hear “sshhh”. I didn’t know they were shushing me, I thought they were telling other dogs to be quiet (no idea why they would be telling other dogs to be quiet). We find a second hide, and once again I yell out “alert!” I hear more shushing and I remember thinking those other dogs barking aren’t bothering Kaja, they don’t need to be quiet.

Then we find a 3rd hide, and once again I belt out “alert!” Only this time I add, “we are going to get this Tracy!”

Just one more room to search, and Kaja finds the 4th hide and I yell out “THAT’S 4, FINISH!”

Then I hear more shushing and laughing. I asked were y’all shushing me? I thought you were shushing other dogs and I was thinking barking dogs won’t bother Kaja.

The second video is when I heard the dreaded “30 seconds” in our Master Exterior search. I basically ran to where I thought the final hide was located and it turns out I was correct.
